Hannah:

This is a great article, and offers many salient points for professionals using Facebook.

One thing you might want to add (and something I addressed on my own blog dcprivacylaw.com/.../), is to be careful what you say in comments, notes, and fan pages. Unlike user posts, Facebook does not currently prevent comments and fan page messages from being displayed openly to the whole Internet. Nor are there any privacy settings that you can set to change this condition.

Just spreading the word,

Carey N.
I tend you use FB for both but use it more for personal reasons to stay connected to friends that I really don't see that much and friends that I grew up with in NYC.
Facebook is a great social media tool to keep up with the lives of those that you wish to stay connected to. It has allowed me (and i'm sure most of you) to connect with people that you never thought you would find again. It also allows you to stay connected with current events in your own backyard.
Becoming a "fan" of a particular site is just another way to stay up-to-date with events pertaining to that venue.
As for privacy, the one thing to remember about ANY internet site is that it is public. I never post anything that would cause me or my family any embarrassment nor would I post anything that a prospective employer would find unfavorable. That's right, if you apply for a job, your prospective employer will more than likely look for a FaceBook Page.
In today's world the issue of privacy is a hot topic yet many of us do not protect their privacy.
In the case of Facebook, adjust your privacy settings accordingly, but be conscious of what you put out there and you have nothing to fear....
