Johanna Ostrich is the Creative Director at Beekeeper Group, where she leads the design team with a focus on telling complex (and often wonky) advocacy stories in a clear and meaningful way. She works on a variety of projects- websites, infographics, social campaigns, print materials- and is skilled in helping others become comfortable with design and the design process.
Before joining Beekeeper, Johanna worked on the in-house design team at Kaiser Permanente, creating healthcare collateral focused on clear and simple messaging. She has also worked with clients like the YMCA, the Exposed DC Photography Show, and the Sweetlife Music + Food Festival.
Johanna graduated from Tulane University with a bachelor’s degree in English and German. She also holds a Graphic and Web Design Certificate from the Boston University Center for Digital Imaging Arts.
Outside the Hive, Johanna teaches Visual Design at General Assembly, covering design fundamentals, web design best practices, and strategies for thinking through design problems. In her spare time, Johanna can often be found attempting various craft projects (some with better fates that others). She is a three-time semi-finalist in the Washington Post Peeps Diorama Contest.
