I have my hands in quite a few things that involve DC, but one of the projects I’m most proud to be a part of is the DC chapter of the Awesome Foundation.
Each month, the ten micro-trusties get together (all of us from varying arts, technology, and miscellaneous backgrounds in the greater DC area), chip in $100 each, and decide on one lucky awesome submission that will receive our $1000 cash. The project must promote and/or embody awesomeness in the District and surrounds. It can be sublime or ridiculous (or sublimely ridiculous!) as long as it meets the following criteria:
1. It’s awesome.
2. It’s got impact.
3. It’s going to happen soon.
Past winners have been a mobile FabLab, the Petworth Jazz Festival, and most recently, One Night Stand: A pop-up art intervention to clean up vacant lots throughout the city.
The $1000 Awesome Foundation grant is given every month and so we count on the community for submissions. So get brainstorming and submit your AWESOME ideas to the DC chapter here: http://awesomefoundation.org/submissions/new
